16-year-old Mia Thermopolis is a normal shy girl who just wants to keep off as many of life's petty embarassments as possible in her high school, until her long-lost grandmother Clarisse appears suddenly, and tell her about her true destiny: she is the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia. Mia then agrees to take on a course of complicated princess lessons and a totally changed life, with the help of her best friends Lilly and Michael.
