Bastard out of Carolina

Based on Dorothy Allison's best-selling novel, this drama follows the life of Bone, a poor white girl whose step-father takes out his rage on her both physically and sexually. Set in Carolina in the late 1940s, this film goes out of its way to handle its material with as little exploitation as possible, approaching many aspects of life, family, and hardship amidst the poor white of the South.
