The Purge takes place in a future world in 2022, when America becomes "the new national rebirth", with crime and unemployment rates at very low levels. To keep a stable level, the government has an annual campaign called "12 hours purge" that human can freely liberate all their negative emotions. During this 12-hour, the crime (including murder) are allowed by the law.
