Inspired by the book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City by Nelson Johnson, the initial season of the series set in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1920s', centering on political figure Nucky who earns the prominence and take over the Atlantic City during the Prohibition period.
