Season 5 sees a lot of changes in lives of main characters. Elena and Caroline go to Whitmore College, without knowing that Bonnie has sacrified her life to revive Jeremy. Stefan has to face-off with his immortal doppelgänger Silas and develop a bond with Caroline, while the newly human Katherine struggled with mortality and motherhood. The relationship between Elena and Damon is challenged when Enzo, one of Damon's old vampire friend reappears and looks for revenge.
